AbobotulinumtoxinA

AboboutulinumtoxinA is the scientific name for an injectable marketed under the names Botox® and Dysport®. The product is injected into a muscle and, within a matter of a few days, the muscle is disabled. If we inject into the forehead, for example, the forehead muscles will not be able to as effectively crease, thus softening the wrinkles across the forehead. We can inject into other facial muscles as well, softening or even eliminating wrinkles and fine lines between the eyebrows, at the corners of the eyes, above the lips, and around the mouth. The procedure’s effects last 4 to 6 months.

Botox® and Dysport® can also be used for dental treatments. The product can be injected into the jaw muscles to relieve or even eliminate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Not all TMJ dysfunction is caused by muscle malfunction, but when this is the cause, the abobutulinumtoxinA can provide significant pain relief. The product can also be injected above the upper lip, which relaxes that muscle. If a patient shows a lot of gum tissue when they smile (“gummy smile”), this procedure can eliminate the gummy smile, no surgery required.

Fillers

Fillers are thicker, more viscous products that are injected just under the skin’s surface. Our fillers are marketed under trade names such as Restalyne® and Juvederm®, and they are formulated with hyaluronic acid. Fillers can be used for a variety of treatments. Some products can be used interchangeably between the lips and the general facial area. Only a doctor can determine the best product for a given situation. The effects of fillers last 4 to 12 months, depending on the product.

Facial fillers are injected just under the skin’s surface, in areas where the patient has creases, folds or wrinkles. Instead of treating the muscle, a filler “fills in” the crease, plumping it and making it less prominent. The most common areas treated with facial fillers are the mouth, chin, and lower face, between the nose and mouth.

Lip fillers are injected into the lips. Lip fillers can be used to reshape the lip line, plump the lips, or better define lips.

Volumizer

Volumizer: A volumizer is a specialized filler that is injected into the upper face, along the cheekbone. The volumizer enhanced the cheek bone, thus lifting the skin of the lower face. The effect is to reduce sag in skin that can cause wrinkles in the lower face. The volumizer we use is sold under the trade name Voluma®. The effects of Voluma® typical last one year.
